ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the status of healthcare-associated infection(HAI)management in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals as well as integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine hospitals in Fujian Pro-vince,analyze the existing problems and weak links, and put forward corresponding improvement measures. Methods A questionnaire was designed through literature and expert consultation, from March to April 2016,42 secondary and above traditional Chinese medicine hospitals as well as integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine hos-pitals in 8 cities of Fujian Province were conducted on-site investigation, data were analyzed. Results A total of 42 hospitals participated in the investigation,92.86% were traditional Chinese medicine hospitals,7.14% were inte-grated traditional Chinese and Western medicine hospitals;all hospitals set up HAI management committees and HAI management groups of clinical departments, there were 100 HAI management professionals(66 were full-time,34 were part-time),nursing staff accounted for 63.00%,junior college and undergraduate personnel accoun-ted for 84.00%,staff with intermediate and senior professional titles accounted for 79.00%.There were significant differences in academic disciplines and education levels among administrators in secondary and tertiary hospitals(P<0.05). All hospitals carried out HAI case surveillance, only 2.38% achieved HAI informational software monito-ring,83.33% carried out comprehensive and targeted monitoring,42.86%,71.43%,and 80.95% of hospitals car-ried out targeted monitoring on multidrug-resistant organisms, surgical site infection, and intensive care unit respec-tively.Conclusion The environment of majority of Chinese medicine hospitals in Fujian Province improved signifi-cantly,organizations of HAI management is rational, staffing and quality of HAI management personnel is imbal-anced,HAI monitoring is still at preliminary stage, lack information management,HAI management in key depart-ments is not optimistic.

ABSTRACT

X-chromosome short tandem repeats (X-STR) analysis has been confirmed to be effective for kinship testing such as in deficiency paternity cases. The aim of this study was to develop a new multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system that can simultaneously amplify 9 X-STR loci (GATA172D05, DXS10159, DXS6797, HPRTB, DXS10079, DXS6789, DXS9895, DXS10146 and GATA31E08) in the same PCR reaction, and to obtain the database of the 9 X-STR loci in three ethnic populations in China. The genetic data of 815 (404 females and 411 males) unrelated Han Chinese from Hubei province, and Yi and Zhuang Chinese from Yunnan province were analyzed by using this multiplex system. The results showed that a total of 93 alleles for all these loci were found, and 7 to 20 alleles for each locus were observed. All of the analyzed loci were in agreement with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium after Bonferroni correction in the three studied populations. The polymorphism information content (PIC) and power of discrimination (PD) in females were 0.6566-0.8531 and 0.8639-0.9684, respectively. Pairwise comparisons of allele frequency distribution showed significant differences in the most of these loci between different populations. The results indicate that this multiplex system is very useful for forensic analysis of different ethnic populations in China.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo demonstrate the myocardial lesion associated with long-term administration of methamphetamine in rats.

METHODSThe experimental models of intoxication of methamphetamine were established in Sprague-Dawley rats. Methamphetamine hydrochloride (3 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) was subcutaneously injected to rats in methamphetamine-treated group (n = 16), and normal saline at the same dose was injected to rats in control group (n = 16). After 1 week and 8 weeks of injection, 8 rats in each group were sacrificed and their hearts were examined with light microscopy and electron microscopy, respectively.

RESULTSAfter 1 week of methamphetamine exposure, foci of contraction band and cellular degeneration were present in subendocardial myocardium. Cellular degeneration, myocytolysis, and contraction band necrosis became prominent and extensive in methamphetamine-treated rats after 8 weeks. Hypertrophy, intracellular vacuolization, and fibrosis were also observed. The ultrastructural feature showed marked swelling and degeneration of mitochondria, enlargement of sarcoplasmic reticulum, and dissolution of myofilaments. No obvious cardiac myocyte lesions were observed in rats of control group.

CONCLUSIONMethamphetamine abuse daily for a long time may result in an increased risk of cardiovascular lesions similar to cardiomyopathy.
